Fantastic Foodbank Response
The people of Kapiti responded amazingly to an appeal for assistance with food stocks for the Kapiti Foodbank on Saturday.
Supermarket shoppers unselfishly purchased extra items during their routine grocery outings, and donated generously to the call for help to those in need in our area.
David Edwards, organiser of the Kapiti and Waikanae Rotary, and Kapiti Inner Wheel Club’s staffing of collection points, commented that ‘the support from the Kapiti Community has been nothing short of amazing. Last year we collected 200 banana boxes of food, and while we have yet to tally final numbers, it appears that we have collected in excess of 300 boxes this year, plus more than $2000 in cash.
This will enable the voluntary staff at the Foodbank to continue to support those who warrant help to feed their families. We still have to account for the trailer, which is parked inside the Kapiti Pak’N’Save, and is filling fast’, Mr Edwards said.
Mr Edwards went on to say that he sincerely thanks the people of Kapiti for their unstinting generosity. He wants all of those who have assisted, to know that this record-breaking effort on Saturday, will provide valuable support and nourishment to families who are in genuine need. ‘To all of you, a great big thank you’, said Mr Edwards.
